This is an innovative re-imagining of Waiting for Lefty, followed by a panel discussion aimed at finding answers to some of the most important challenges of our time. All on Zoom.
Transporting the play to 2021, the union scenes will be staged as a Zoom meeting. The audience will become part of that meeting, making them participants as well as observers. All other scenes will be live streamed on location and for these, we’ve cast actors in ‘bubbles’ and are using their homes as our sets. East City Films have been working closely with us to create a unique way of capturing and streaming the action live to Zoom. A cross between theatre and fly-on-the-wall documentary, the audience will feel like they’re peering into the private lives of Odets’ characters.
In the panel discussion which follows, the audience will be invited to ask questions and debate the issues raised in the play. Panelists will include: trade union reps, academics, authors and journalists. We want to create a space where we can share an experience and freely exchange ideas. All from the comfort and safety of our homes.
